  • Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes.  A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity.  Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, such as Microsoft Operating System and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content.  Actual formatted capacity may vary.
  • A kibibyte (KiB) means 210, or 1,024 bytes, a mebibyte (MiB) means 220, or 1,048,576 bytes, and a gibibyte (GiB) means 230, or 1,073,741,824 bytes.
  • IOPS: Input Output Per Second (or the number of I/O operations per second)
  • MTTF (Mean Time to Failure) is not a guarantee or estimate of product life; it is a statistical value related to mean failure rates for a large number of products which may not accurately reflect actual operation. Actual operating life of the product may be different from the MTTF.
  • Read and write speed may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size.
  • Subject to Change: While Toshiba has made every effort at the time of publication to ensure the accuracy of the information provided herein, product specifications, configurations, prices, system/component/options availability are all subject to change without notice.

OCZ VX500 Media Reviews

The Vector 180 behaved more like an enterprise SSD with an emphasis on sustained performance. The VX500 by contrast is very clearly focused on peak performance for client workloads. It is one of the few drives that uses SLC caching on MLC NAND, and this allows it to deliver very good burst performance by the standards of a mid-range SATA drive. – AnandTech

Hardware Canucks Dam Good Award

Toshiba and by extension OCZ and their new VX500 are daring to do thing differently by literally paddling upstream against the current and still finding a way to surpass their immediate competition. Much of this success is due to the epic amount of technology both OCZ and their parent company Toshiba have living under their corporate umbrella. The VX500 is effectively able to leverage an in-house controller with mature yet still high performance NAND to create a mid-tier drive that has both endurance and what should be enduring performance metrics. – Hardware Canucks

Benchmark Reviews

The OCZ VX500 512GB SSD is an excellent drive. Its price comes in at the low end of the 512GB SSD spectrum, and the inclusion of Acronis True Image backup utility enables purchasers to easily migrate their Windows installation to the new drive (a feature of True Image). The drive exceeded Toshiba’s specifications for sequential reads and writes in the ATTO utility, and overall performance was excellent, especially considering how much more money you’ll have to spend to get a drive with noticeably more performance. – Benchmark Reviews
